Treatment Foster Homes
Utah Youth Village has over 50 Treatment Foster Homes throughout Utah. Treatment Foster Homes are somewhat less-structured than Group Homes, and are effective for less-troubled youth. Each home is privately owned by a married couple. These homes provide safety, security, and nurturing care for one to two youths per home. This program is designed to: - Provide a stable living and learning environment for youth
- Teach skills that will enable successful functioning within society
- Teach academic, job related, independent living, and family interactive skills
- Show youth the positive rewards of being a considerate, responsible, and respectful person
The youth range in age from 2 to 18 years old. An average stay is about five months. The youth receives treatment in a structured family setting with therapeutic intervention by fully trained staff. Most interactions are designed to teach communication skills in a positive, nurturing way and help the child/youth function in family/school settings.
Each couple receives intensive pre-service training and monthly in-service training in topics such as: - Adolescent suicide
- Academic success
- Sexual abuse
- Treatment techniques for abuse victims
A consultant visits the Treatment Foster Home and provides ongoing observation, support, training and feedback for the couple.
By allowing children to interact in a structured family setting while attending the public school system, they have the capability to learn normal social skills that will help them to be reunited with their family.
